what if?

via
Our American democracy doesn't seem to be working right now.

People don't feel represented by those who are supposed to represent us. Our votes don't feel counted when we collectively choose one candidate but the mysterious Electoral College gives us someone else. And when we look to our nation's leaders in Congress who are supposed to be moving us forward into a brighter tomorrow, it looks more like a bunch of children sticking their tongues out at each other and saying, "If I can't have it, then you can't have it, either!"

So, it comes as no surprise that people don't trust politicians and voted a non-politician into office. People are fed up with the status quo and wanted something different.

The problem is that we now have someone in office who seems to care more about himself and his personal glory than the country he is supposed to be serving.

What if we went back to John F. Kennedy's mantra of asking not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country?

What if we elected someone who truly was in office to serve and do what was in the best interest of the American people?

What if a different non-politician (regular person) became President of the United States?

Someone who is helping to raise a family of four without a six-figure salary and understands the daily struggles of real American people rather than someone so removed from the lives of average Americans, they don't think anything of spending millions of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars to fly down in a private jet with full security detail to play golf at a Florida resort on the weekends.

What if we had a President who wanted to listen and learn rather than "be presidential"?

No one rules a country (or even becomes successful) on their own. What if we had a president who was more focused on bringing people together than personal glory?

What if we had someone in charge of our country who had integrity and meant what s/he said?

On day 99 of his presidency, Trump said the job was much harder than he expected and that he missed driving and his old life. (Though having the American people pay for him to golf in Florida on the weekends and for Melania Trump's security in their New York apartment doesn't feel like he's given up his old life.)

Funny how he said everything was going to be so easy. And less funny how he says one thing one day and then surprises everyone the next day, doing the exact opposite.

So, just daydreaming, what if one of my wise friends became president? Or gosh, I'd do it and put service before ego and do everything I could to bring people together rather than drive them apart. But there are so many more qualified people than myself out there, so will one of you please step up and take his place?
